Rights Respecting ICT!

Hello All

So, we had some visitors last week who wanted to know all about what we do as a school with regard to the United Nations Charter for the Rights of the Child.

Your job today is to continue to use your ICT skills to create something that would demonstrate this.

You could choose:

  • Powerpoint
  • A piece of writing in Word
  • An animation in Scratch
  • Design a web-page
  • A piece of computer art
  • Anything else you can think of!
Make sure your punctuation and grammar is used properly and that the piece of work is something to be proud of.

Check the RRS Blog out - to see examples of what we've done.

When you've done that - can you please maker sure that your How the Internet Works presentation is finished and produced nicely.

Assessment Task!

Afternoon all.

This afternoon you have an assessment task. You have this week and the first Monday back to complete your task.

I want you to create a Powerpoint presentation explaining how the Internet works and how information is moved around it. You will need to remember all the work on 'packets' and 'hops' that we've been working on over the past few weeks.

All the information you need will either be in your head or in links contained in your blog and beyond. Don't forget the video we looked at.

I expect everyone to be able to create and save their presentation in their MyDocuments folder - its name should be Internet.

Some of you will have many pages in your presentation. Some of you will have 'buttons' or 'hyperlinks' to help your reader move around your presentation.

Here are some suggestions for you:

1) Have a front cover page that looks appealing
2) Have a contents page where you can click to take you to other pages
3) Have a page that explains what your presentation is about
3) Use pictures and writing to make your presentation useful
4) Research more than you already know
5) Remember, you only have 2 sessions to get this done

Collecting your information together...

Just a quick bit of computer 'housekeeping' for you to do for me...

I want you to do a few things.

1) Rename your page name to index.html
2) I want you to create a folder that has your first name and initial of your surname as the name. So, I would have a folder called paull
3) Copy all of your files that are linked to your page into your new folder (so, you should have your index.html file and any other picture files in the folder)

Thank you!

A Title for Your Autobiography Page

Hello All

So - you're getting there with the coding for your page. Great.

Wouldn't it be good if you had a cool graphical title or logo at the top?

Well, this week that's the challenge you have: create the logo or title and them embed the picture at the top of your page.

Here are some suggestions for how to do it followed by the success criteria for embedding the picture in your page.

You'll need two or three bits of software to make the picture/logo:

1) Microsoft Powerpoint (Start->All Programs->Microsoft Office 2013)
2) Snipping tool (Start->All Programs->Accessories)

Use Powerpoint to create the image you want (remember how to import pictures, use word art etc?)

Then use the Snipping Tool to cut out the bit you want as the title/logo and save it in the same folder as your webpage. Call it logo.png

This might be the first time you've used the Snipping Tool - see if you can figure out how it works. Or click here for guidance.

Then, go to your web page (in Notepad remember) and then straight after your <body> tag write:

<img src="logo.png">

Remember: when you save your snip, call it logo.png and put it in the same folder as you biography file!!

Good luck and be creative.

More Debugging

Go to the usual folder on P-Drive and copy the file new.html into your documents.

It's not working properly. Can you fix it?

It's also a RUBBISH page!! Can you make it look better?

When you're done... keep working on your autobiography page.

Debugging!

Before you continue with your autobiography... you have some debugging to do.

Go to Pupil Resources on the P-Drive and copy the file called web_page_gone_wrong.html to your MyDocuments folder.

Double click on it... it looks horrible! Where are the headings? Where is the picture?

Use your debugging skills to make it look OK again!

Designing Websites 3

So, the coding is going OK!

Do you know what you are aiming for? What will your webpage actually look like?

If you're struggling to answer that question then why not use your existing skills to help you?

Why not use Word or Powerpoint to design what your webpage might look like?
